Tourism in Godhra

Godhra is one of the five sub-divisions of Panchmahal district. In the month of July 2004, Champaner-Pavagadh Archeological Park in the Panchmahal district was found in the world Heritage list by UNESCO. Also, this medieval city of Champaner-Pavagarh is popular for its vast numbers of historical monuments of several religious faiths as well as water bodies (both natural and man-made), which attracts more than 20 lakh visitors per year. Besides this, Panchmahal is also a home for many interesting places like – Luneshwar Mahadev Temple as well as Marideshvar Mahadev Temple. Whereas, the two fairs of the district such as – Chaiti Atham and Math Kotal, are those which attract several tourists every year.

The other tourist attractions include – Jambhughoda Wild life sanctuary and Ratanmahal Sloth Bear Sanctuary in Godhra City.

Hills in Godhra

There are several hills in the city of Godhra, few are namely - Pavagadh Hills, Kadana and Devgad Baria. All these hills are very near to the Godhra city.

Pavagadh Hills: Pavagadh hills are said to be situated at Halol Taluka, which is nearer to the Godhra city and is a very famous tourist attraction. Also, Pavagadh is well-known as ‘Pavakgadh’ or 'fire hill' in earlier days.

Besides this, Pavagadh has also been popular as the strongest hill fortress, where Kalika Mata Temple (devoted to Goddess Kali) is a most holy center of Hindu Pilgrimage, and has been built during the 10th – 11th century at the peak of the Pavagadh hill.

The old fort of Champaner, which was found to be the medieval capital of the Gujarat, is located at the southern part of the Pavagadh hill.

Kadana: This is a hill, where there is a memorial stone as well as the dam, and on the opposite side of which, a bank of the river Mahi is found, where the temple of Nadinath Mahadev can be seen on the hills.

Devgad Baria: Devgad Baria is another hill where fair is held during every Dushera festival and the old Kalika Mata temple as well as temples like – the Ranchhodji, the Gokulnathji, the Radha-Govind temple, the Patalesh-war Mahadev, also the temple of Garudeshwar Mahadev and the Sun temple are found.

Rivers, Lakes, and Ponds in Godhra

Hot Water Spring: Godhra is famous for the natural hot water spring that includes sulphur with medicinal value. This water spring is established in Tuwa and various people come to this place in order to take bath in the hot water.

Whereas, there is a belief that Saint Sharbang as well as Lord Ramchandrari have stayed in the nearby Ashram that is located close to this place.

Ram Sagar Talav: Ram Sagar Talav is one of the leisure spots, which is located at the center of the Godhra city, and has been split into two components and a small drainage connects them.

Also, you can find a landscape at the center with a statue of Swami Vivekananda placed in it, and there is a fort situated at the north-eastern direction of this Ram Sagar Talav lake. 

Citadel: The citadel was constructed by Mahmud Begda, which has walls that pass from north-south, with many gates. All of the gates were double-storied, with rooms meant for watchkeepers, whereas four out of these gates are still in good condition.

The east and south gates called Halol and Godhra gates are the extra large rectangular gates, which is a must-see place for all the tourists.

Kakachia: This is a place where there is a combination of 3 river flows called Triveni Sangam – Mahi, Panam and Veri.

Most of the tourists get attracted towards wildlife sanctuaries, where they can find leopard and wolf,crocodile and chameleon, Lion, leopards, hyenas, Chinkara, crocodiles, Sambar, Spotted Deer, etc. Few among the famous wildlife sanctuaries are – Ratanmahal Wildlife Sanctuary, Pania Wildlife Sanctuary, Mitiyala Wildlife Sanctuary, Barda Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, and Porbandar Bird Sanctuary.
