Krishna Temples in Godhra

Bhalka Tirth temple is one of the finest temples in nearby Godhra city and is considered as one among the important shrine which is situated near Somanath temple. It is said that this temple has been built on the name of Lord Shri Krishna and on account of His memory, and the temple has been named as Bhalka.

Bhalka Tirth Temple in Godhra

There is a belief that, Lord Krishna was meditating under Peepal tree and He was hit on his legs by an arrow, which was shot by an hunter assuming it to be a deer. With this pain Bhagawan Shree Krishna walked a few distance till banks of the river Hiranya, Kapila and Sarasvathi. These three rivers are called as Prabhas Patan’s Triveni Sangam, from where He took the journey to reach personal abode also called as Nijdham in Sanskrit. So, Bhalka refers to the meaning arrow, and it is said that footprints of the Lord Krishna is found and can be seen even till the date.

Lord Krishna started his journey on Shukla Paksha to Nijdham, which is mentioned in the 'Vishnu Puran' and 'Bhagavad Gita' and had took place in the early 3102 BC. This temple is also known as Mahaprabhuji’s Bethak. At this place, a Peepal tree has been planted in the memory of Lord Krishna and under this Peepal tree, another Shri Krishna idol has been carved beautifully where Lord Krishna is playing his flute and has been sculptured using white marble stone. This idol has a positive vibration, which gives a refreshment to the mind and relaxed body due to its great spiritual effect. This mesmerizing and majestic monument of this temple was constructed by moon gold out of gold and later was razed down to silver by the Brahmin, Ravana.

Heeta Mandir in Godhra

Beside Bhalka Tirth temple, there lays another temple known as Heeta Mandir and this Mandir has Lord Krishna’s idol along with His cow, which is beside him. While on the pillars of this temple, the preachings and teachings of Bhagavad Gita has been carved beautifully. From this place around 3-4 kilometers away, there lies another famous and beautiful temple by the name Somanath Temple. It is said that Lord Krishna appeared at this place as 'Lord Vishnu' with four hands holding conch, chakra, mace, and padma in different hands.

Near to Bhalka Tirth, a place known as Baldev Gufa which means caves is situated and according to the puranas, Lord Baldev- Lord Krishna’s elder brother, disappeared through this caves and entered other world. Lord Baldev later was considered as the King of Snakes also known as 'Sheshnag'.

Janmashtami Celebrations in Godhra

Krishna Janmasthami, that is the birthday of Krishna is celebrated in a very grand way, which falls during the month of August and September and is considered as the major festival in the city of Godhra. And people from far off places come to this temple during 'Krishna Janmasthami' to enjoy this festival and involve themselves in this great festival. Amongst all the holy temples and places in Gujarat, Bhalka Tirth and Somnath Temple have a greatest importance, which is opened between 6.00am to 9.00pm and can be visited anytime during the year.
